(no spoilers) I watched The da Vinci Code on the 18th of May, 2006, the first screening of the film at GSC Melaka. We are lucky that we live in the East, as we have the privilege of watching movies way earlier, compared to the Europeans(or the West). I would say that the movie adaptation is quite okay, but it doesn't live up to the bestseller. Tom Hanks does look like a symbologist, but what's up with the hair? Sir Ian McKellen was great as Leigh Teabing. And I have always admired his acting, as Gandalf of The Lord of The Rings for example. Audrey Tautou, I can't say much about her, but for me, she deserve the role of Princess Sophie. And Jean Reno as Bezu Fache, great. And the albino monk would be great if he's Darth Vader(lol). The critics gave it a C+, if you happen to surf Yahoo! Movies. But that doesn't matter, for we all have our own perception. I won't rate The da Vinci code, for I have no such wisdom to do so. The cryptex is beatiful. I would want one as a birthday present(envious of Sophie), though it wasn't Leonardo's inventions, as told in 'da Vinci Declassified'. I am glad that we get to see the full, no-cuts version of The da Vinci Code, though it is rated 18PL. It is enjoyable. If you loved the book, you'll come to like the movie. But, it doesn't seem to have much detail in it. I would not know if one could understand fully the movie if he/she never touched the novel. Such is the case of the Fibonacci sequence. What is that? I would know, but to those who never read the book, this could be more than a puzzle to solve. Ultimately, this is a film worth your money. And this is a film for those who are curios. Curiosity is important to fully enjoy the movie. -taken from So Not The Drama-

    assalammualaikum dear brothers and sisters,

well, i've just watched the movie last night. the movie was ok. however, i don't think the movie is worth our money and time. it is just a 'merepek' story for me, a Muslim. Us Muslims, don't actually need know about the story much because i don't think it will give us any benefit.
just read the book is enough for your curiousity.

by the way khairul, the things that u said are alot like those that i read on the newspaper.

mayb u're right. but think bout this, the price for a movie ticket is under RM10, and the book is around RM30. Unless u've saved some money/a bookworm, i think it best to watch. and what newspaper r u talking about, honestly?

hey i've also watched the movie last night..i enjoyed it so much!i find it worth my money n time..like khairulanwar said, rather than buying the book,it would save my time n money by just watching the movie..i think it does benefits me(depends really on people)..for me,bcoz,it does really strenghten my akidah towards Islam..it does also encourage me someway to understand al-quran better after wathching the movie..it really does makes people being more skeptical towards the Christian religion..(i dare not to comment on that)..BUT i really pity the albino guy (silas)..why in the world does it have to be an albino people to be the bad ones haha

i'm going to go and watch it tomorrow. the movie critics better not be right...

yup, saiee's rite. kalu malas membaca, tengok saja lah. save time, save money. if interested, membeli lah bestseller itu. and ia menunjukkan ke-flaw-an modern christianity. atif, go, go, go(pergi menonton)! hope u'll enjoy the mov.

kerul, you should read angels and demons to get an idea what all this christian-attacking literature is all about. i find it too in-your-face preachy of atheism. my personal opinion, of course ;) i'm not even sure what dan brown's beliefs are.

and am just curious lah, how is the da vinci code supposed to show the flaws of modern christianity, when it's fiction?

hoho enjoy atif!! btw,if anyone knows,i don't really quite understand about the movie..why did Jacques Saunière wanted Sophie and Robert Langdon to find out about the secrets of Holy Grail when he at the 1st place tried to hide it from Sophie by not revealing her true identity??i thought Jacques Saunière was supposed not to tell anybody about the secrets?y did he even bother to pass it on to Sophie n Robert?y anyway at the 1st place the secrets were passed on from generations to generations of The Priory Of Scion? hurm,i guess mayb the book might be more detail..

well, my actual opinion is, sape yang dah bace tu cukup la dengan bace je. yang malas bace tu,tgk la kalo x nak rase ketinggalan.
to saiee, u said "it does really strenghten my akidah towards Islam.."
it means u realised how 'merepek' the story was.der...
but i'm impress that the movie actually managed to encourage u to learn more about the quran.i myself wish i can learn more about the quran but i never expect a movie like that, to be the reason or the encouraging factor.

i'm well in my way in buying angels and demons, tp b4 that, ade bbrp buku waiting-in-line. the flaws of modern christianity, u asked atif. well, there r truths behind it(d da vinci code), believe me. separate facts from fiction, and u'll see it. kalau brminat, tonite(23.05.06) ade encore presentaton of da vinci declassified at 10pm, discovery channel. n kalau lg ingin tahu, well, there r loads of books dedicated to it.

to saiee, really, u should membaca buku jika ingin tahu. it's fun, while killing ur time(past-time, i hope). i myself, like u, ter-encouraged to discover more of our religion, and beliefs(and of others'). sallehuddin, u could never expect what will jadi mangkin untuk sesuatu. it's all in His(Allah s.w.t) plan.

@kerul : yup, i know there are truths behind it, but i find the writing too convenient to suit the plot, meaning there are things that may seem real, but could actually be pure fallacy (check out angels and demons, and look up the truth of its facts on the net... NOT on dan brown's site ;))

just watched the movie - interesting, thought-provoking, but found it too "convenient" for a plot, and won't work for me as a blockbuster or a film worthy of an award - ANY film award.

btw, pls keep all statements honest and without prejudice (like what you are doing now, i would assume) because since we link to other blogs and sites, people there MIGHT visit us, and these people would come from a diverse background.. so... yeah...
